Year 11 and Year 12

Who this course is for

This course is for Year 11 and Year 12 Maths Extension 1 students who want to improve their exam results. You might be finding the step up from Advanced difficult, getting different results across topics, or looking for more practice with the hardest questions.

A difficult Extension question can bring several topics together in a way you have not seen before. Your tutor helps you identify what the question gives you, decide how to start and explain each step. You practise making those decisions yourself so you can keep working when an exam question looks unfamiliar.

How we help you improve

Learn how to approach questions you have not seen before

We teach you to break a question into smaller steps, choose a method and check whether it is helping you reach the answer. You practise showing your reasoning clearly and using your time well on questions with several parts.

Harder functions and calculus questions

Work through more difficult questions involving functions, identities and calculus. Your tutor explains why each step is useful, then helps you practise choosing those steps for yourself.

Counting methods and proof

Learn how to count possibilities while following the conditions in a question. Practise organising different cases, avoiding double counting and explaining why your answer or proof is correct.

Questions with several parts

Practise using an answer from one part to help solve the next. Learn to keep your working clear, check for mistakes and decide how much time to spend based on the marks available.

Weekly lessons and exam practice

How the weekly program works

Each week, your tutor explains the topic and works through challenging questions with you. Timed quizzes check what you can do on your own, and marked homework shows where your reasoning needs more work. A supervised exam each term gives you practice applying these skills to unfamiliar questions within a time limit.
